Livin' La Vida Pocono

Per Wiki~A Gummi bear is a small, rubbery-textured confectionery, roughly two centimeters long, shaped in the form of a bear
It is no secret that we love junk food. I call it ghetto food. Back in the spring of '98 we were transferred back to PA. Whilst living in PA, we took a few trips down to the Poconos for long weekends to relax and mountain bike. The poconos is or used to be known as one of the Honeymoon Capitals. Most of the rooms look like a bad boogie nights trip on acid. You almost feel as though you need a soft porn silkwood scrub down when you come out of there. Anyway, way off track. This IS a food post. One of the weekends we took our now 19 year old son (about 9 back then). We entered a candy store that was selling chocolate covered gummi bears. Quadruple ICK........who the hell thought of that??? Gummi bears are ok....I mean, you eat too many and it makes it difficult to drop the kids off at the pool the next day. BUT CHOCOLATE COVERED GUMMI BEARS IS AN ABOMINATION......doesn't even sound good. Fruity jelly rubbery goodness enrobed in chocolate, YUCK. Son buys them and my husband and I proceed to eat them. We couldn't leave them alone. Poor son finally coerces the bag of gummies away from 30 year old parents and proceeds to hide them in the glass lampshade right next to the light bulb. Oh, did I mention the light bulb was ON. We leave the room and go out to eat or do something come back to our room smelling like it was ON FIRE. No, we didn't turn out the lights when we left......we weren't so GREEN back then. We are looking high and low for the culprit of burning smell when finally said son, says oh look, my gummi bear bag has a whole burnt in it. What is the moral of this story??? I don't know. I am tired and for whatever reason this memory came to me today and it dealt with food. I guess you could say the moral is.........30 year olds shouldn't eat gummi's.....or 30year olds shouldn't steal candy from their kids.......don't hide your bag of gummies in a lamp......or you could burn the Pocono's down.

Oh God, the Poconos. My parents moved to Wilkes-Barre when I was in college and I can honestly say those were the darkest days of my life! Ewwww.....hope I never, ever go back. Milwaukee, in all it's beer-stupored glory, kicks the living crap out of northeastern PA, Poconos or no.

Sorry to slam NE PA....I don't think I have any readers from there. If I do, I'm sure they'll let me know how they feel about my opinion.

I don't think I've ever tried a chocolate covered gummy bear. Even though a gummy bear every once in a while is pretty tasty.

And I've never been to the Poconos, even though I grew up in PA. The farthest trips we went on as a family growing up were to Cedar Point.

When I was little, I thought the Poconos was a an exotic island location, just from the sound of the name, I guess.

oh, no...i think the moral of this story is much bigger and important...if there is a hunk of burning anything at the oh so romantic poconos, i think it should be something not "g" rated!! all these years later, when you seem to have so many great, adult getaways to choose from, perhaps a little soiree (sp?) in the champagne glass shaped bathtub would make you forget the candy store that sells the gummy bears...just a thought...although, you would probably prefer Blackberry Farm

WHO would mess up a perfectly good chocolate bear by putting a gummy bear inside it! Oh Guess What! Lora does not like "Gummy Bears". I have plenty of my own sugary delights from my childhood though that would turn your stomach inside out! My kids ate a ton of "Gummy" delicious treats in various shapes, sizes & colors! Can't even stand the smell of them!

I love gummy bears, but chocolate covered ones? I don't know...

My parents honeymooned in the Poconos. I came along 9 months later!

im a fan of the plain ol' gummy bear.. not chocolate covered ones. My favorite happens to be gummy bears with vanilla ice cream. Not just any Vanilla ice cream - but Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla. Never knew the Poconos were a honeymoon place! Lots to learn about the north I guess

I still haven't tried them...for all the reasons that you mentioned. But every single person that I know who does try them, LOVES them! It's a crazy crazy idea.

I love the poconos....I think it is beautiful there....although the accomodations are quite cheesy. Wilkes-Barre has a great radio station The Bear. Everyone should have a chance to have their own soft porn boogie nights experience at the Poconos....popping chocolate covered gummi bears into your lover's mouth whilst floating inside the mouth of a giant champage glass jacuzzi..............that's class baby, that's class!!!!!!!!!!
